What Is Currently Renting in Wanaka?

Demand for 2, 3 and 4 bedroom homes in Wanaka is strong with supply not meeting the number of tenants. Any property advertised at under $550 per week is in high demand and owners have several good applicants to choose from. Homes with log fires, heat pumps and garages continue to dominate "must haves" on prospective tenant's lists.

We are finding that homes in established neighbourhoods are more popular than those in new sub divisions where there is a lot of building happening and not too many facilities established yet e.g. shops, cafes, reserves .

Albert Town is no longer seen as a poor cousin to Wanaka. Tenants, especially young families and professionals enjoy the community feel and close proximity to some beautiful walking and biking tracks. Albert Town Four Square underwent a make over and so did the local take away shop and pub. There are now a couple of options for cafes and this adds to Albert Town’s appeal.

The Monkey Farm Cafe in Northlake is worth a visit (easy parking and great for kids and dogs). It is good to see this area slowly taking off.

As winter rentals come to a close, many people decide to extend their stay and are on the look out for warm homes close to town. As a contrast, a recently advertised rural property was very popular. Locals keep an eye out for these homes as they are not often available.
