A game of 2 halves! While Wanaka town has been performing well with good demand, an average of 24 days on market and little if any price negotiation, Hawea is a different story.
Facebook posts showing long lines of cars queuing to get over the one-lane bridge, days of bridge closures with more scheduled, and ongoing sewerage upgrades are factors unlikely to be viewed as positive marketing attributes. As a consequence average days on market has in some cases stretched to several weeks and price reductions are fairly common.
These closures and maintenance won’t last forever and new, warm homes will always be attractive to tenants especially as rents in Lake Hawea are generally $50 per week cheaper than the same house in Wanaka.
There has been much talk of the new Links sub-division which is in the early planning stages. It is walking distance to town, close to the big brand stores in Three Parks with low maintenance sections. Likely to be popular with a range of different tenants.
